Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association pushes for stronger sustainability frameworks

Steered by cloud adoption, electronic services and artificial intelligence (AI), regional request for data centres is forecasted to expand almost 20% every year through 2028. The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that Southeast Asia’s information centre electricity use will almost double by 2030 contrasted to 2024– a trend mirrored across the broader APAC region.

Property developers are urged to work together closely with regulatory authorities and industry partners to develop regular power effectiveness requirements throughout the APAC markets.

The Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association (APDCA) has actually launched a brand-new white paper calling for better guideline and market collaboration to boost energy sustainability throughout data centers in the area.

Among the examples presented is Singapore’s BCA-IMDA Green Mark for Data Centres (GMDC)– a qualification scheme collectively established by the Infocomm Media Advancement Authority (IMDA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to identify data facilities with strong sustainability efficiency and energy-efficient process.

The white paper emphasize best techniques to improve energy efficiency throughout the data centre lifecycle– from spot selection, design and building and construction to operations and tracking. It also recommends plan measures to accelerate access to clean and renewable energy with stronger grid framework and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

” Balancing energy sustainability with the growing demand for digital infrastructure is among APAC’s defining hurdles,” states Jeremy Deutsch, chair of APDCA. “With the right policy frameworks, Asia-Pacific governments can ensure that electronic change advancements hand in hand with net-zero ambitions.”

The APDCA members include leading international operators, such as AirTrunk, Equinix, Digital Realty, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, and Princeton Digital Group.

Labelled Data Centres and Energy Sustainability: A Regional Perspective on Best Practices and Policy Frameworks, the paper was launched on Oct 27 and lays out strategies to lower the environmental influence of data centres whilst meeting the rising need for digital structure in Asia-Pacific (APAC).
